(T1)
Whether you are a business client of ours or you simply need your
personal taxes prepared we are here for you.
We will professionally and accurately prepare your individual T1
Federal Income Tax Return. The return will be fully explained to you
and you will receive a FULL copy of your return not just a couple of summary
pages.
Should you wish, and during applicable periods of the year and return
status, we will Efile your return to Canada Revenue Agency at no
cost to you. This process speeds up your return, refund, and
applicable credits and benefits to you.
All types of personal returns are prepared professionally by our
office. It does not matter if your return consists simply of a T4 or
involves more complex tax transactions including capital gains, foreign
income and treaty applications we can handle it.
When coming to our office for the first time for personal tax
preparation call for a convenient appointment to review your tax needs and
remember to bring the following:
- Prior year returns (at least the immediate prior year) We
will review the return at no charge to you. There may also be
pertinent information in the package needed to accurately prepare your
current return
- Your Notice of Assessment (NoA) from your last filing.
This is the paperwork you receive from Canada Revenue Agency which
confirms the information in your tax return. If you can not
find your NoA you may obtain a copy by calling 1-800-959-8281 or you
can go to MY ACCOUNT at the CRA website at
www.cra.gc.ca. Your Notice
of Assessment will outline any changes to your filed return, provide
carry-forward information, and details on any RRSP contributions,
LLP balances, or HBP balances.
- All information slips including T4, T4A, T4A(P), T5, T4RSP,
etc. Also bring all RRSP/RSP contribution slips, social
benefits payment records.
- Medical expenditure receipts. Also ensure you inform us
of any medical conditions existing in your immediate or extended
family. Such conditions can give rise to tax benefits and
credits which can be extended to other family members.
- Charitable Donation receipts
- Tuition receipts T2202/TL11
- Information for any applicable credits and benefits including
property tax statements, rental payments, dependant information and
documentation.
- Should you have any foreign holdings which total $100,000 or
more (Canadian) you will be required to disclose the applicable
details
- If you have any businesses including farming or rental income
which is operated as a sole proprietorship or partnership this
information will be needed as well. See our information on
Sole Proprietorships, Partnerships, Farms, and Corporations for
more information.
- If you are involved in sales activities or other positions in
which employment related expenditures can be claimed bring all
relevant documents and receipts. These typically include
automotive fuel & repair receipts, vehicle lease/ownership/financing
documents, mileage logs, direct expenditure receipts, and household
expenditure summaries (if applicable) including mortgage statements.
Also, don't forget the T2200 declaring the Conditions of Employment
signed by your employer permitting the claim of such expenditures.
- If you have had any transactions which may give rise to
capital gains exposure (including in some instances your principle
residence) bring information on these items. Such information
can be complicated and you may wish to call us beforehand to review
the needed papers.
- Finally, bring all your tax preparation and planning
questions. We will be happy to assist you and provide
guidance. Should you wish, we can provide any guidance and
advice in writing and if the matter requires detailed analysis we
can arrange a separate appointment to fully address the matter (see
Personal Tax Planning below).

Having your personal income taxes prepared is one matter. However, by
the time the Income Tax Return is being prepared for last year it is often too
late for proactive tax reduction or deferral initiatives. Proper planning
can either reduce, transfer, or defer personal income tax. The best times
to initiate a tax planning strategy is now. But the next best time is upon
the completion of the Income Tax Return for the last year. At this time we
will learn valuable information related to your personal financial and tax
status.
Tax planning can be as simple as retirement savings and planning to
maximize tax savings and investment return through PROPER use of RRSP deductions
or complicated involving income splitting, forward averaging, capital gain
exposure planning, estate planning, and more. Personal tax planning is
often performed in conjunction with Personal Financial Planning (below) but can
be done separately.
When Personal Tax and Financial Planning Services are initiated within six
months of our office filing your Personal Income Tax Return you receive a 100%
refund of the billing for Personal Income Tax preparation services.
